Hello Friends and Family,
I decided to make a blog/travel journal so that everyone who wants to can keep up with my travels.
For those of you who don't know, I had the opportunity to work in Germany this summer. I am living/working in Wiesbaden, which is near Frankfurt. I got here yesterday. The trip went relatively smoothly, but it was a looong day. two days. whatever. and it involved a lot of not sleeping, a lot of walking, and a lot of lugging around giant suitcases.
But I made it! And my apartment is really nice. and a whole lot cheaper than staying in a hotel (yeah, they wanted me to stay in a hotel for three months). I have been to the office and am all set there. Everyone I have met so far seems really nice.
I haven't seen any "sights" yet per se, but I have done a lot of walking around the neighborhood, which is pretty cool in itself. A lot of cool old buildings and stuff. I will probably have more to report later on in the week.
I don't know a whole lot of German yet, but I at least know enough to stumble through a transaction and get my food/groceries/whatever and hopefully make the other person feel bad enough for the stupid american to not be mad at my awful German. But I am hoping to keep learning more as I am here. On that note, I recommend DuoLingo, it has a pretty good free app to learn languages. I also bought Lonely Planet's German phrasebook. so far it seems pretty good, though admittedly I haven't looked at much of it yet.
Anyway, I am still pretty tired from trying to sleep on the 8.5 hour plane ride. So I should finish this post up before I start any half-asleep ramblings. But if anyone needs an excuse to come visit Germany, let me know ;)
PS: this is my first real blog, so forgive me if it is sub-par.
